ALTADENA, CALIF. – (BUSINESS WIRE)
April 9, 2010 –
An analysis of the top 100 trafficked "News and Media" and the top 100 "Blogging" sites concluded that websites that start with an offline
brand generate more than 50 times more revenue than websites that do not
have this head start. The analysis was conducted by Stephen Walker,
Managing Director of Perfect Market Analytics, a service of Perfect
Market, Inc., and is available at
http://www.perfectmarket.com/analytics/?p=3.
"This suggests that major media companies fortunate enough to have this
head start should be careful to nurture and protect their brands on the
online world"
In arriving at his conclusion, Walker used data from Compete.com to
compare the monthly page views and the revenue per thousand page
impressions of a population of websites that started with an offline
brand with a population of websites that did not.
Said Walker, "The difference in performance was dramatic. Companies with
major brands have an advantage in driving traffic, but they have an even
greater one when it comes to monetizing traffic. The advantage in
revenue is driven both by eyeballs — six times as much traffic — and
monetization — 10 times higher revenue per thousands of page impressions.
"This suggests that major media companies fortunate enough to have this
head start should be careful to nurture and protect their brands on the
online world," added Walker.
